Before picking up a brush full time, I spent nearly 25 years as a journalist in Canadian public radio.
That career, built on precise observation, economy of language, and finding the telling detail, proved better preparation for still life painting than I could have imagined. Both disciplines, it turns out, ask the same fundamental question:
What is worth your full attention?
I have been painting since 2000. My still-life paintings aspire to - and are inspired by - the work of the hyperrealists. These pieces represent an ongoing exploration of the constants of life that connect us all as human beings: childhood memories, cherished objects, food, the kitchen and the creative impulse.
My work is underpinned by my long-held fascination with the interplay of light and dark, positive and negative space, and the power of light to define the surfaces across which it travels. I hope these works bring a sense of connection and a bit of light into your life.
See you around the studio.
